Supported Virtualization Server Operating Systems
Linux Integration Services (LIS) 4.0 allows Linux guests to use Hyper-V virtualization on the following host operating systems:
- Windows Server 2008 R2 (applicable editions)
- Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2
- Windows 8 Pro, 8.1 Pro, 10 and 10 Pro

Applicable Linux Distributions
Microsoft provides Linux Integration Services for a broad range of Linux distros as documented in the Linux and FreeBSD Virtual Machines on Hyper-V topic on TechNet. Per that documentation, many Linux distributions and versions have Linux Integration Services built-in and do not require installation of this separate LIS package from Microsoft. This LIS package is available for a subset of supported distributions in order to provide the best performance and fullest use of Hyper-V features. It can be installed in the listed distribution versions that do not already have LIS built, and can be installed as an upgrade in listed distribution versions that already have LIS built-in.
This update adds support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7, CentOS 6.7, and Oracle Linux 6.7. LIS 4.0 is applicable to the following guest operating systems:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5-5.11 32-bit, 32-bit PAE, and 64-bit
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0-6.7 32-bit and 64-bit
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0-7.1 64-bit
- CentOS 5.5-5.11 32-bit, 32-bit PAE, and 64-bit
- CentOS 6.0-6.7 32-bit and 64-bit
- CentOS 7.0-7.1 64-bit
- Oracle Linux 6.4-6.7 with Red Hat Compatible Kernel 32-bit and 64-bit
- Oracle Linux 7.0-7.1 with Red Hat Compatible Kernel 64-bit
Linux Integration Services 4.0 Feature Set
When installed on a virtual machine that is running a supported Linux distribution, LIS 4.0 for Hyper-V provides the additional functionality over LIS 3.5 listed in the table below.
- Installable on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.6, 6.7, and 7.1
- Installable on CentOS 6.6, 6.7, and 7.1
- Installable on Oracle Linux 6.6, 6.7, and 7.1 when running the Red Hat Compatible Kernel

As always – something must be wrong. Script upgrade for version CentOS 6.7 checks for every version except … 6.7.
Way to go guys!

with lis4-0-7 i get the message:
# ./upgrade.sh
Unable to determine the kernel version
with lis4-0-11:
# ./upgrade.sh
"./upgrade.sh: line 141: syntax error near unexpected token `}'
This is broken on RHEL 6.7, and to fix it you need to:
1) hack the lis4.0.11/upgrade.sh script to detect that you have one of the 573 kernels **installed** (rather than booted)
2) cp lis4.0.11/RHEL66/upgrade.sh lis4.0.11/RHEL67/upgrade.sh because the wrong script is there (it's a copy of lis4.0.11/upgrade.sh when it should not be)
3) hack lis4.0.11/RHEL67/upgrade.sh to include –replacepkgs in options to rpm -Uvh
Sad.
I installed CentOS 7.2 on Hyper-V.
Default LIS is working well with CentOS 7.2. After upgrade LIS to ver 4.0.11, keyboard and mouse are not working anymore.
Fyi.
Note: "The file-copy daemon (hv_fcopy_daemon) implements a file-copying service (hypervfcopyd) between the host and a guest." Anybody here can use this feature? I tried it without any success.
I have had the same issue where the keyboard stops working after LIS install.
Also installed latest and keyboard is not working. Any fix from microsoft?
The file upgrade.sh in the RHEL67 directory is incorrect. It will cause the "./upgrade.sh: line 141: syntax error near unexpected token `}" error. I replaced the file with the upgrade.sh file from the RHEL66 directory and the upgrade just went flawless.
[running CentOS 6.7]
I just downloaded the latest version .. still 4.0.11 and the problems with the Centos 6.7 are still in there. Nothing changed. (today is Feb 16/2016)
Also, my VM crashed after a normal yum update…
Now reverting to kernel Linux vp-lnx01 2.6.32-504.30.3.el6.i686 instead of 2.6.32-573.18.1.el6.i686 (which is current) to make my machine boot again.
Looks like a low priority issue for Microsoft.
