Microsoft Lync is a major release that delivers enhanced
telephony features as well as greatly expands on the feature set across other
modalities (IM and presence and conferencing). Lync builds on the feature set
in Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2. The major focus of Lync delivers
the missing feature sets needed for the Enterprise Voice solution to satisfy
Telephony RFIs (for example, E9-1-1, survivability, music on hold, call
admission control, and so on).

Lync also provides a converged user experience and
consolidated infrastructure for communications and Web conferencing. Microsoft
has also streamlined the administrator experience and simplified the number of
server roles required to deploy and manage Lync Server.

Microsoft Lync 2010 provides a fresh experience to delight
users with an all-in-one client. With Lync 2010, the Microsoft Office Live
Meeting Conferencing Add-In isn’t required by Lync Server 2010 for Web
conferences, which removes the need to install multiple client applications (Microsoft
Office Communicator and Microsoft Office Live Meeting Conferencing Add-In). All
modalities (presence, IM, conferencing, application sharing, voice-even
voicemail) are integrated into a single client. Lync 2010 also provides direct
access to voicemail, eliminating the need to use Microsoft Outlook to check
voicemail, although both options are still available. In the Office
Communications Server 2007 R2 release, users required Office Communicator 2007
R2, Office Live Meeting Conferencing Add-In, and Outlook to access all these
modalities. With a single client, large-scale corporate deployments to
employees are simplified.

Summary

Lync Server has many new features that deliver enhanced
telephony. Microsoft has streamlined the administrator experience. Lync 2010
has many features that provide a fresh experience to users with an all-in-one
client. Together, Lync Server and Lync 2010 provide a rich environment to help
users communicate more easily and in a variety of modalities.

    yes  i know its have some new features but that is useless
