In Windows Server 2012 R2 and Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Virtual Machine Manager (SC 2012 R2 VMM), Microsoft provides an end-to-end network virtualization solution. The following four major components make up the Microsoft network virtualization solution:
- Windows Azure Pack (WAP) for Windows Server provides a tenant-facing portal to create virtual networks.
- System Center 2012 R2 Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) provides centralized management of the virtual networks.
- Hyper-V Network Virtualization (HNV) provides the infrastructure that is needed to virtualize network traffic.
- Hyper-V Network Virtualization gateways provide connections between virtual and physical networks.
