The Netsh command-line utility provides a way for you to configure settings and display the status of various networking features on computers running Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008. You can run Netsh commands to configure the local computer or remote computers by manually typing commands at the netsh command prompt or by running the commands in batch files or scripts.

If you are new to Netsh commands, this reference contains an overview of Netsh, instructions for entering a Netsh context, a formatting legend that you can use to interpret command syntax, as well as examples for Netsh DHCP and Netsh WINS. Within each context, the individual command contains comprehensive details that include:

· Command definition

· Command syntax

· Required and optional command paramaters

· Command usage examples

In most cases, netsh commands provide the same functionality that is available in the user interface (UI). There are, however, Netsh commands for some network functionality, such as for IPv6, network bridge, and remote procedure call (RPC), that are not available in the UI. Some client technologies, such as Network Access Protection (NAP) client, Wirelesss Hosted Network also provide Netsh commands that allow you to configure client computers running Windows 7 or Windows Vista. When there is a difference between commands for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008, or between Windows 7 and Windows Vista, the commands that are new or changed in Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 are clearly labeled as such.
