Day 2 of SNW-Some gems….

We are in day 2 of Storage Networking World and we have already seen some great new storage products to help Windows based customers managed their storage environment.  The growth of unstructured data in many customers’ environments has made NAS gateways quite popular to consolidate the data storage allocated to file serving.  On this front EqualLogic has announced a new Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 based gateway that is optimized for EqualLogic iSCSI SAN devices.  It is now possible for EqualLogic customers to cost effectively consolidate and protect their file data with a SAN.  Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 has built-in support for NFS (more on this later) and customers can consolidate, scale and protect Windows-based file services with Windows server and client systems as well as UNIX, Linux and Apple systems.  The gateway is manufactured by AMS Storage and is tightly integrated with EqualLogic iSCSI SAN devices.  EqualLogic iSCSI arrays do leverage Windows storage technologies such as VSS, MPIO, VDS and provide end users with a really simple and efficient way to deploy a SAN to improve overall storage utilization.  As a member of the Microsoft Simple SAN family, the EqualLogic storage solutions are ideal for the Windows environments (see here).  Now block and file storage can better integrate together on EqualLogic iSCSI SAN to make overall storage management much simpler for customers!
