As announced on the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit team blog, MDT 2013 Update 1 is available for download. When combined with the ADK for Windows 10, you can now build custom Windows 10 images, deploy Windows 10 to new machines, and upgrade existing machines.
Almost a year ago, we began talking about making Windows 10 deployment easier by leveraging an in-place upgrade from Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1. For a full description of the in-place upgrade process and how it is different from the traditional wipe-and-load that you are used to, see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt282208(v=vs.85).aspx.
Of course MDT 2013 Update 1, as well as in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager R2, fully support deploying Windows 10 to existing machines by leveraging an in-place upgrade. Want to give it a try? Check out the step-by-step documentation on TechNet:
- Upgrade to Windows 10 with the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit
- Upgrade to Windows 10 with System Center Configuration Manager
