TNWiki Article Spotlight – Big Data Analytics using Microsoft Azure: Introduction

Hello and welcome everybody to our TNWiki Article Spotlight on Tuesday.

Big Data  is one of the hottest topics today. Apache Hadoop is one of the central ecosystems in this area. Some time ago Microsoft joined the game and, together with Hortonworks, created HDInsight. With HDInsight you have a fully managed Hadoop service running on Azure. Big Data and Hadoop is a huge area … so, how can you get started with HDInsight?

Luckily, Chervine started Big Data Analytics using Microsoft Azure: Introduction. In this article he covers some of the basics, such as answering questions about what Big Data is, what Hadoop is and what you should know about the MapReduce algorithm. After the basics he shows how to create an HDInsight cluster and how you can play around with it.

If you are interested in Big Data Analysis and love Microsoft Azure, you should not hesitate to read this article!

No, there isn’t. You could try to use Hortonworks HDP platform. HDP can run on Windows Server (instead of Linux in the other Hadoop distributions).

    Thanks Horizon_Net & Chervine!

Is there any Microsoft solution without using cloud (as a downloadable product) ? I’m looking for a search platform like Solr, but as a Microsoft product.
