Let's get started with the interview...

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do?

Hi everyone, my name is Emiliano Musso, and i work as professional developer since 2003 for a company in Northern Italy, in the town of Asti. I've received my first Microsoft MVP nomination for Visual Basic expertise in October 2014. You can check my profile at https://mvp.microsoft.com/it-it/mvp/Emiliano%20Musso-5001095

What are your specialty technologies?

I'm primarily focused on .NET Framework, doing my everyday job using VB.NET and C# desktop side. Another big interest (and work tool) is T-SQL and SQL Server. Web side, i'm «fluent» in ASP, and pretty into PHP/MySQL, having developed several web applications in both. Right now, I've started working on C# for Windows Phone, also.

What are your big projects right now?

Speaking about work, ASP and SQL Server, the main challenge of the past months was adapting a pretty complex pre-existant e-commerce portal to the database of a customer's newly bought software. My main target wasn't only to make everything work, but i wanted everything work faster than before, a target i successfully reached.
Regarding Wiki articles, i plain to publish in May a Windows Phone how-to on realizing a geolocating app, remotely storing geocoordinates for further reference. I've completed both the smartphone/web parts, what now remains to do is some drafting for the article (which i hope i will be able to do soon).

What is TechNet Wiki for? Who is it for?

I think TechNet Wiki is for everyone who wishes to learn, and i think that's the primary TechNet Wiki reason for being: sharing knowledge. Its a wonderful mean to bring experts close to each other, knowing about them and from them. An excellent tool to allow everyone to access a top-level collection of articles.

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

The opportunity to learn from great people. As i said, TechNet Wiki also brings people close, so you can learn to trust the sources, because - article after article - you start to know the strengths of a particular author, and you'll know you will invest your time in reading something really good. In a word, i really appreciate the sense of community connection.

What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

So far, I'm pretty proud about my articles on genetic algorithms: i've written «Genetic algorithm for icon generation in Visual Basic» (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/29515.genetic-algorithm-for-icon-generation-in-visual-basic.aspx) and «Visual Basic: Genetic algorithm to solve 2D Mazes» (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/29844.aspx), the former being included in TechNet Magazine March 2015 Edition.
The AI field is a very interesting one, i wish i had more time to study it. I love to develop samples of genetic algorithms, neural networks (for which i hope to write something in the future), to show how the paradigms of our biology could work in a digital environment. The possibilities of use of these technologies are manifold, i'm sure we'll see wonders in the future, and i'm pretty excited about it.

What could we do differently on TechNet Wiki?

I think you guys are doing a great job. I want to take this opportunity to thank you publicly for your efforts. And for the efforts of every author writing on it.

Do you have any tips for new Wiki authors?

You may think your contributions will be marginal, but don't lose the will to share them: people will benefit from the time you'll put into your work, and everything has its importance (and IS important!). Also, be ready to accept corrections or tips by other members, because that will contribute in your personal growth. Have fun contributing, being helpful to others it's all that really matters, and it will give you great satisfaction.

Wow! Thank you, Emiliano for the great tips and for all your contributions in the community!

Everyone, please join me in thanking Emiliano!

Have a great day!
