  4. 12/21 – TechNet Wiki Translation Challenge Update!!! Hezequias contributes to two languages!!! French team up to close the gap with Portuguese!

The total results were 205 articles translated into 8 languages by 11 translators in just 7 weeks!

This contest started on November 30, 2013.

Here's a funny story from the challenge – Hezequias (who writes in Portuguese, French, and English), started going full speed ahead in translating in French (with a few in Portuguese). Durval left this comment on the Wiki page, TechNet Wiki Translation Challenge: November 2013 to January 2014: "Hezequias !!! You have to translate to "Portuguese"  =^s"

And then the next day Durval left this comment: "Thanks Benoit, your PS script helped find an article of Hezequias translated into Portuguese!  ; ^ D"

Well, Hezequias and Benoit gave it a good shot for French, but Durval translated so many Portuguese articles!

And now it's time to crown our winners!

First, here's the contest for the most overall articles per language. Portuguese wins!!!

1. Portuguese – 95 articles!

2. French – 64 articles!

3. German – 34 articles!

Russian and Turkish are tied for 7th place!

And here is what the Portuguese community wins…

Top Translated Language – Your language wins a Friday post that focuses directly on your contributions and on who your team members are and what they contributed. Second, I'll make your team a Wiki Ninja stick figure image for your country! =^)  — Since we already have one with your country's flag, we can make one that represents your country in some way, like the Wiki Ninja stick figure playing a sport, at a landmark, or doing a favorite activity.

So Durval, Heqequias, and Marcelo, what would you like your Brazil stick figure to look like? =^)

UPDATED – Language Prizes:

  1. Friday International Update – The Portuguese Winning Translations!
  2. Wiki Ninjas Stick Figures – The Soccer Collection!!! (for Brazil winning the Translation Challenge)

And now it's time to crown the winners of the individual contest!!!

  1.  – 94 articles (Portuguese and English)
  2. – 45 articles (French)
  3. – 34 articles (German)

So thank you to all our contributors, even those who just contributed one article… every translation helps the community, and so we thank you for your help!

Let's see what Durval won!

Top Individual Translator – The person who individually translates the most articles will get a Monday interview blog post (Interview with a Wiki Ninja – Durval already did this, but I'll give him some new interview questions), a post that explains all your Wiki contributions (I think I'll just combine this with the Portuguese post), and I'll make Durval a customized Wiki Ninja stick figure image! =^)

  8. Durval Ramos says:

I have to give “special thanks to the culprits”, who encouraged me so much in the first two weeks of the “challenge”: the Turkish Community. They did an amazing job between september and october of 2013. I think that Brazilian Community not had chance to win. Congrats Baris, you honored your Community !

  9. Durval Ramos says:

Ed, this figure could be related to soccer, in tribute of history between Benoit and Hezequias divided into two Communitie and also Benoit playing with the little story of the “Footix mascot” =^b. Anyway, it was fun and would be a good souvenir, but…. I’ll talk with Brazilian members about suggestions for this new Wiki Ninja stick figure of Brazil.

Now to me (I’m like a child asking for a gift for Santa Claus) lol =^D I initially thought in a Wiki Ninja using “my helmet”, but I believe that a stike figure with two or more Wiki Ninjas as “clones” is better !!!

  10. Gokan Ozcifci says:

Great work Durva! and again a big thanks to Baris

  11. Matthew Yarlett says:

Good work everyone! Can we add a category for translating articles into Australian (my native tongue)? It would include a lot of slang words! Then I can join in! 😉

  12. Zeca Lima says:

Thank you Ed and all community french.

  13. Ed Price - MSFT says:

Hezequias, you’re welcome! You all deserved the recognition with some great contributions to your languages!

  14. Ed Price - MSFT says:

“Thanks Ed, you made the sharing of important informations for the International Community be a “fun job”. – Durval, that’s awesome! That’s truly my hope… Not only do we make an impact on the community, but we have fun doing it!

  15. Ed Price - MSFT says:

“I initially thought in a Wiki Ninja using “my helmet”, but I believe that a stike figure with two or more Wiki Ninjas as “clones” is better !!!” – Durval, I’ll try both! =^)

  16. Ed Price - MSFT says:

“Good work everyone! Can we add a category for translating articles into Australian (my native tongue)? It would include a lot of slang words! Then I can join in! ;-)” – Matthew, Ha! Um, while I would say “Yes” and that it would be a lot of fun, I’m sure that crusty old Community Council would complain how you’re taking credit for other peoples’ work, cluttering the Wiki, etc. But as a joke, if you want to translate any article into Australian, we can post it to the Wiki Ninjas Announcements blog. =^)

  17. Durval Ramos says:

Whenever an article is not fully comprehensible in your language you have the right to translate. Perform a translation is to share more good information for people who speak your language. It’s also a way to honor the original author, showing that your content is good and deserves to be shared. I already had several conversations with Ed about the differences of the Portuguese Language: pt-BR x pt-PT. In a few sentences is virtually impossible to tell that’s same language, but it’s important to know that one thing is the language (Portuguese, English, …) and another is the dialect (Brazilian, Portuguese, American, English, Australian, …). The dialects are greatly influenced by local and new words emerge through various cultural influences. To stimulate your translation see the link below with the latest statistical survey of TechNet Wiki articles for each language(created by Tomoaki). The Australian English has only 1 article, this is a good opportunity to raise the flag of their country… ; ^ D http://blogs.technet.com/b/wikininjas/archive/2014/01/03/friday-with-international-community-update-progress-in-each-language-dec-2013.aspx

  18. Ed Price - MSFT says:

Durval, that’s a good point. I was just thinking that people might be translating articles from en-US into Australian or British. Sure some spelling and words might be different, but it would be very similar content. It’s fine for a few articles, but if there are many then it will eventually become an issue.

  19. Ed Price - MSFT says:

Duval, regarding the Portuguese Wiki Ninja stick figure, what can we do to make the soccer ninja more Brazilian? Carry the flag? Colors on the ball? Anything else? Thanks!

I’ll probably do a generic soccer one and a Brazilian soccer stick figure, so that the generic one can be used by others as well. Thanks!

  20. Durval Ramos says:

Ed, I’ve been thinking a Wiki Ninja stick that was closer than is Brazilian soccer and only came an image in my mind. A stick figure with “yellow shirt”, “blue shorts” and a traditional ball (black and white). No problem about insert the flag. I thought about it’s seeing the “Stick Figure Graduate” sequence where is the Wiki Ninja with “clothes”. See below the uniform of my country for the next World Cup Soccer
