Friday with International Community Update – Progress in each language (Dec. 2013)

Happy new year!!
Welcome to the 1st "Friday International Community Update" post of this year.

The end of December is as follows:

The topic of this month:

  • 292 posts of Turkish are New Record!! (exclude English)
  • Turkish reached 1000 articles and beat English!
  • French broke their own record of 36 that they set at August, 2013.

A year passed

A year has passed since I started blogging here. TechNet Wiki and every international community continue to grow. Let's confirm the progress in the past year.

The increase of articles in Spanish and French has been especially obvious since August, and the number of Turkish articles increased rapidly from October. For articles in English, Tagging has greatly progressed. Portuguese works as hard as ever. Other communities are also making fairly good progress.

We are capable of further growth!!

Thanks!

Tomoaki, isn’t august the month when I took the leadership for the Turkish Community =^)

@Ed, you asked for 1000 articles, we are now on 1042 articles 🙂 what’s next?

    Thanks again for that Tomoaki!

Very impressive numbers. The recent initiatives to encourage participation have really made a difference. The number of articles in the Wiki has more than doubled in the last year, and we have several new languages. Thank you Tomoaki for posting this, and congratulations to all made the last year such a success.

Gokan, I don’t know what new challenge by Ed for the Turkish Community, but I just like to see one article translated from any language to Turkish language in the Translations Challenge (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/21567.technet-wiki-translation-challenge-november-2013-to-january-2014.aspx). Only one article Gokan! A Community big and strong as Turkish cannot leave without participating. So far, the Communities that are participating are: Portuguese, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, English, Japanese and German. We missing you!!! The Challenge runs until 01/12/2014.

  10. Gokan Ozcifci says:

    Durval,

You’re absolutely right! I had a conference call with my team and asked if we had to participate and they were all OK. I’ll have to check with them what exactly they did!

    Thanks,

    Gokan

  11. Bruno Lewin - MSFT says:

These are just amazing numbers. It’s really great to see so much progress and the great communities that stand behind all these articles. Also major kudos to you Tomoaki for having delivered these stats every month, like clockwork. I cannot wait for what 2014 brings and wonder who will be the next language communities joining the 1K club. 🙂

  12. Ed Price - MSFT says:

Congratulations to the Turkish community for completing over 1,000 articles by the end of 2013! Amazing job!

Gokan, the next step is to get over 100 translated articles. =^)

  13. Ed Price - MSFT says:

Also, the English stats are skewed and get big jumps in August 2013. The reason is because we started getting more serious on tagging the existing English articles so that we can count them. So the articles existed before then and there are still over 1,000 or so that aren’t marked yet (but it used to be over 7,000 unmarked, so we’re getting closer). Thanks, Tomoaki!

  14. Ed Price - MSFT says:

There’s also a Spanish jump in July/August 2013. First, it’s because we started tagging a bunch of existing es-ES articles, but also the Spanish community is pretty huge and it took us awhile to get them aware of the Wiki. Still there’s huge untapped potential over there. We just need to get a few crazy leaders to step up. It will happen. =^)

  15. Durval Ramos says:

Look Gokan, Ed is much more ruthless in the challenges than I do… I had requested one only translated article. Next time ask for me, that the challenges will be easier ;^)
