TechNet Wiki: Featured Article Teams

We have one team for each version of the Wiki. Each team exists to update the featured articles on the home page of that language-based version of TechNet Wiki. Because this takes a unique and passionate personality, the team will change regularly. The appointed Team Captain (one per language) will work with the Community Council member assigned to this Area. They will make sure there are at least 4 members of their team (4-10, per language), and a current Captain is designated each month.

We’re currently recruiting team members for each language. We’ll invite a captain for each team once we have enough team members signed up.

Leave a comment to join a team! Which language do you want to help with?

  1. Great initiative again Ed! And what about the French or Turkish?

  2. I'm ready to help with the Russian Wiki.

  3. Yagmoth555 says:

Hi Ed, I can join the English's team.

  4. Where is Turkish Team 🙂

  5. UPDATE:

    – English: I added Yagmoth. We need two more!

    – Portuguese: None still!

    – Russian: I added Denis. We need three more!

    – Chinese: None still!

Thanks to Denis and Yagmoth for signing up! You'll get an email from me later.

  6. Gokan and Serhad,

We don't have a dedicated version of TechNet Wiki for French and Turkish!

But those are on our list. Actually, Yottun is basically doing research for us…

    blogs.technet.com/…/friday-with-international-community-update-progress-in-each-language-may-2013.aspx

So the priorities should probably look like:

    1 – Turkish

    2 – Spanish

    3 – Japanese (about 4 contributors currently)

    4 – Farsi/Persian (only 3 contributors currently)

    5 – Italian (only 2 contributors currently)

    6 – Indonesian (about 4 contributors currently)

    7 – French (about 2 contributors currently)

    8 – German (about 3 contributos currently)

At this point, I would only recommend the Turkish and Spanish versions. For those other 6 languages, we need to build strategies and plans to get at least 12 or so proactive contributors from each language before they should have their own version of TechNet Wiki. We need to get more of the language forum members involved. That's basically what we did for Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, and Spanish.

    Thanks!

  7. I'm ready to help with Russian Wiki.

  8. Naomi N says:

I can help with English and Russian. I am also wondering if we have any article in Hebrew?

  9. Naomi N says:

Also, can you please describe what exactly is needed from the people who help and how do they make the article to be the featured article?

  10. Naomi N says:

In addition, I can translate some of my articles into Russian. Say, few of my most recent articles in T-SQL. Denis/dplotnikov – can you check my recent articles (search by tag 'Naomi') and decide which ones may be interesting for Russian community (if any may be interesting at all)?

  11. Naomi, nothing in Hebrew. When we get some Hebrew articles, we should update the tag on this page to link to it. This page acts like a TOC of each language: social.technet.microsoft.com/…/364.wiki-non-english-language-title-guidelines.aspx

  12. Naomi, yes, I can add more of that information. The team will sync for the specific periods (the English team will pick two articles each week). The team captain will submit the articles to the Wiki support team to feature them. So the real responsibility is communication as a team and recommendations/voting for what should be featured each time. (Russian is four new articles each month.) As we get more contributions, the cadence will increase.

  13. Thanks to Dplotnikov and Naomi! I added you to the lists!

    UPDATE:

    – English: I added Naomi. We need one more!

    – Portuguese: None still!

    – Russian: I added Dplotnikov and Naomi. We need one more!

    – Chinese: None still!

  14. Can you please add me into English Featured Article Team too?

  15. Dplotnikov,

    Done! Thank you!

  16. I'm jealous! Yagamoth555 you're already a member of "MTFC" .. !! :^)

  17. Yagmoth555 says:

    Gokan, hehehe :o)

  18. Naomi N says:

Should the featured article be from the recently published or it can be any article?

  19. Hi Ed,

I'm ready to help with Portuguese Wiki.

  20. Thanks Yagmoth. Yes, the process for English is that the community adds the English articles to that list, and then the team will pick from that list, usually targeting technologies that haven't been feature recently. The other languages will built their own processes.

  21. Gokan, what's MTFC?

I just realized that the acronym for this group is "TW FAT". =^)

  22. Luigi,

We don't have a dedicated version of TechNet Wiki for Italian!

But Italian is definitely on our list.

So the priorities should probably look like:

    1 – Turkish

    2 – Spanish

    3 – Japanese (about 4 contributors currently)

    4 – Farsi/Persian (only 3 contributors currently)

    5 – Italian (only 2 contributors currently)

    6 – Indonesian (about 4 contributors currently)

    7 – French (about 2 contributors currently)

    8 – German (about 3 contributos currently)

At this point, I would only recommend the Turkish and Spanish versions. For those other 6 languages (including Italian), we need to build strategies and plans to get at least 12 or so proactive contributors from each language before they should have their own version of TechNet Wiki. We need to get more of the language forum members involved. That's basically what we did for Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, and Spanish.

    Thanks!

  23. Luciano, I added you as our first Portuguese member!

    UPDATE:

    – English: We've got 4 members now! But we can take 6 more if you're interested. =^)

    – Portuguese: Added Luciano. We still need 3 more!

    – Russian: We need 1 more!

    – Chinese: None still!

  24. Yagmoth555 says:

Hi Ed, If Chinese is really empty, I could make a search with the language tag and try to spot good article to feature with the translation widget. Message me if it fall that way (So a temporary spot until a team got found)

  25. Ed.. The MTFC is the "Microsoft Technical French Contributor" Award that we started à few months ago whith Philippe, Bruno and you 🙂 I'm surprised that you already forget it 🙁

  26. Gokan, so Yagmoth won his own award??? =^)

Yagmoth, yes that's a good temporary solution. I'll add you for that. Thanks!

  27. Hello Ed,

Count me in, glad to participate!

  28. Naomi N says:

I added a new article for Russian WiKi to post candidates to be featured there

    social.technet.microsoft.com/…/17908.ru-ru.aspx

Boy, how slow Russian WiKi is! I had errors several times and it was painfully slow. I wanted to translate few of my recent articles into Russian, but so far I am seeing extremely bad performance there.

  29. Naomi N says:

Also, I added one article (by Tim Pacl) into the list of featured articles in English. I think we may want a new  article there also going forward as the original is very big and hard to find new additions.

  30. Naomi N says:

BTW, I clicked on e-mail me updates for the article, but got none so far. Do I only receive updates if it's someone else than me?

  31. Naomi, I'm checked your article.

Yep, Russian TechNet Wiki very slow, this resource is not a priority for the Russian DPE and and other responsible persons -)

  32. Naomi N says:

    Hi Denis,

Do you plan to add new candidates for featured articles into it? Also, what exactly the process should be? I looked through a few articles last night in Russian, mostly about WiKi operations (translations from English, made minor corrections). There seem to be recent Forefront articles, but I haven't read them as this is not my topic of interest. May be one of them can be a good candidate.

  33. Naomi, thank you for adding Tim's article as a nominee. We should go through all the TechNet Guru awards (including yours) and add more nominees from there. Thanks!

  34. Fernando and Luiz, I added you to the Portuguese team. Thank you!

  35. Naomi N says:

The process to nominate new article should be explained in details. To me it's easier to start fresh. I understand that a lot of work had been placed already, but it was before we elected a new team of responsible people for nominating articles. To me using a simple format it much easier than trying to figure out what is in that huge article. It will be also better to have votes in the new format. Finally, using new article for the popular topic I will be able to get more views.

  36. Yagmoth555 says:

Naomi, I like the current process, why? It's easy for everyone to add an article to the list in 2 seconds. If it's not easy nobody will do it :o)

In big the community edit the article too ad something. The main goal there is to elect people that can judge what the community voted and the team make sure every topic got featured. Like for ADDS I can judge, but less for SQL, but the team make it easy to be sure good article got featured. Keep in mind that not all articles that got listed might finish featured, and there is article that never received attention that should be featured because they are good.

  37. Naomi, here's how the process works: social.technet.microsoft.com/…/13806.how-to-nominate-a-technet-wiki-article-to-be-featured-on-the-home-page-of-technet-wiki.aspx

Please read about it and decide whether or not you'd like to join us. Thanks!

  38. We've got our team captains now! I'll work directly with Yagmoth on the Chinese featured articles, so we won't have a captain for that one until we are able to form a team of contributors. Thanks, everyone!

  39. Naomi N says:

So, are all the articles that are in the nominees sections right now are nominees to be featured and we should check each article and chose which is good? Do I understand the process correctly? I've checked the Using ASP.NET and SQL Server article. This article consists of all external links, so I am not sure it's a good candidate.

Also, how do we vote for the articles? What is the process? I opened a new page so we can easily vote. Did you check my latest nominees and ideas?

  40. Naomi N says:

BTW, nobody answered which of my articles you may want to see in Russian

  41. Naomi, we'll get together as a team (via email or a Skype group or maybe both) and we'll discuss good topics like which articles to remove from nomination. Basically we'll pick the technologies that haven't been featured lately, and then we'll feature an article from that technology, based on what's nominated. So part of what we'll do is find articles and nominate them so that we have a good choice available. I've been using the blog to let the community vote. In fact, I'm set to post one of those now. =^)

    Thanks!

  42. Naomi, well I think your articles that won the TechNet Guru award for May would be a great place to start (for translating into Russian) since those articles were so well written!

  43. Naomi, here are the blog posts where I had the community pick which article to feature:

    blogs.technet.com/…/pick+a+wiki+article+to+feature

  44. Added Solenoid to the Russian team! We've got four now!

  45. And then I added Jorge as our fourth Portuguese member! We've got them all (except Chinese, but we'll still have a temporary solution with Yagmoth). Thanks everyone!

  46. Naomi N says:

I am on Skype, so you can easily connect. I am using in gmail, so can be contacted this way as well.

We have 3 Russian articles suggested to be featured so far in the article I started. I think we need more suggestions.

  47. Russian… good, you just need to pick two for the first round. Thanks!

  48. Yagmoth, can you pick out two Chinese articles and email them to me?

    Thanks!

  49. Yagmoth555 says:

Done :), and wow, already over 50 comments. It's really cool. First time I see that for a post :o)

  50. Naomi N says:

Can I also have a blog so I can invite people to vote for Russian articles? We have 3 candidates so far

    social.technet.microsoft.com/…/17908.ru-ru.aspx

I read all 3 of them, they all are OK, but none is my topic of expertise, so it's hard to judge technical merit. I think we need more suggestions to chose from.

  51. Thanks, Yagmoth! Yes, lots of discussions here. =^)

  52. Ed, Naomi,

I think that the list of candidates to the final this article:

Установка роли терминального сервера на Windows Server 2012 в рабочей группе

Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V – список поддерживаемых гостевых операционных систем

    Top 10 DNS Best Practices

    Active Directory-Based Activation (ADBA)

    social.technet.microsoft.com/…/17908.aspx

  53. Denis, that’s awesome!

The next step is to submit the four articles using this process…
    social.technet.microsoft.com/…/17517.technet-wiki-featured-article-teams.aspx

  54. Luigi Bruno says:

I will try to involve other Italian wikiers!

  55. I'll jump in for Russian language

  56. … if there's a room for me 🙂

  57. Vinokurov, that's awesome! Yeah, we'll add you. Thanks!

  58. Solenoid says:

    Ed, look at this –
    social.technet.microsoft.com/…/17908.aspx
, august missing, september also? Not good at it…..

  59. Hello Ed, May I join the English Featured Article Team?

  60. Davut EREN says:

I want to see Turkish Article Team also as Gokan 😉
