TNWiki Article Spotlight: Disaster Recovery - Backup and Restore Scenarios

Hello and welcome to this week's TNWiki Article Spotlight!

I organize the Hungarian User Group of Microsoft SQL Server, and on every meetup event, it is told to the audience of the presentations that "you MUST always have backups".

Why? Because in case of a disaster event, after recovering the hardware and software infrastructure, the recovery process continues with pulling out the backup files. Without those, you're lost - you might be able to deploy some spare servers quickly, but without your data, the servers won't worth too much. It applies to your Active Directory, mail servers, and database servers as well. Without finishing your disaster recovery plan successfully, your business might suffer a serious damage.

So, today I would like to highlight an article which is a high-level, vendor-agnostic discussion about classification of backup and restore scenarios. Another interesting thing about this page that this is one of the oldest articles on TechNet Wiki: the "Backup and Restore: Classification of Scenarios", first version dated to 1st March 2010.

It uses Wiki message templates and it has a Table of Contents as well:

It's always time to learn from each other - so feel free to join this discussion, share your opinion, or add your point of view to this page!
