Community Win: The TNWiki Windows 8 app challenge

In a few weeks Windows 8 is to be released.
Windows Phone 8 is gaining momentum.

So Microsoft is driving the development of Windows 8 apps to the maximum to build a nice collection of apps by october.
Just a few weeks left.

Master Ninja Ed confirmed that there is no app for the Wiki yet!
It would be nice if we would have one, isn't it?

So let's throw down the gauntlet to the Wiki community: develop a TNWiki app for Windows 8.

There is a lot of information out there, but any help, suggestions and support is welcome.

Before you (eh, ... we) can start the development, you need to determine which functionality you would like to see.

So this is the Community Win Poll for this week: "Which functionality would you include include in the Windows 8 app for TNWiki?"

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

  1. My top 5 suggestions are:

    1. Latest New articles

    2. My articles

    3. Featured articles

    4. Search articles

    5. Tag cloud

  2. Pete Laker says:

    Twitter feed

Ability to save tag filtered searches, maybe background periodic RSS checks for tag filters, notifications to live tiles, a tile per filter

    Great topic btw!

  3. Hey if this is a challenge, we should have a goal, a winner(s), and prize(s), even if it's prizes like blog interviews, wiki ninja stick figure, etc.

  4. An app for Windows 8 would be very cool!

When I bought my windows phone, I developed an app to read the feeds of recent articles and what was posted on twitter and the Blog WikiNinjas. The app became very useful for me. I did not need to access the browser + the twitter app to follow the news, everything was in the same place.

I think this same application developed for windows 8, could have the windows phone version too!

    I have a suggestion:

In ' My articles ' there could be a flag with the recognition that article received. But I imagine that this would be more complex to do! (…/7893.what-is-it-worth-details-on-technet-wiki-recognition.aspx )

    Congrats Peter!

    Hi again!

Well, I've been quiet for the last week or so because, well, I've been busy developing it! šŸ˜€

Thank you all for your support by email. I just wanted to post an update here, in case anyone else had read this post and wondered if anything was in production.

Tonight I submitted my App for certification.

Thank you all again for your support, and especially Mr Geelan for the idea!

I'm glad to have been in the right place at the right time, with the right set of tools, so to speak šŸ™‚

  6. Are you going to publish an app for the Brazilian (portuguese) Wiki?
