Wiki Life: Connecting Articles

Hello everyone!

I'm Ana Paula and this is my first post to the WikiNinjas Blog  :)

I will start my contribution to the blog, in the series Wiki Life, highlighting the importance of creating connections between articles in Wiki.

When an article is created, there are three ways it can be connected to other articles:

1) It has no connection with other articles (and this is the most common)

2) It has connections/internal links to other articles.

3) It is part of portals, survival guides ...

I think the ideal for an article is that it has the options 2 and 3. If an article has links and conections, for the reader who is browsing through the pages of the wiki, the probability to find items that will help you in your activities / questions is higher.

The TNWiki in portuguess has Glossaries and Survival guides and as well as the other wikis, content portals of the main page.

In addition to these pages, there are similar articles that can be referenced by helping in the connections. All these pages, may be part of the session ' see also ' articles.

When an article is created, we can add the session 'see also' several connections that help the reader find other references.

For example, for an article of a product installation, you can add the links with the previous and/or later steps described in the article.

Even that seeming like a small detail, the session ' see also ' can greatly help to readers who come to TnWiki through research sites. Many of these readers do not know the Wiki framework. For this reason, to put links in the ' see also ' is important to highlight the pages that have more content, as for example the survival guides.

And to illustrate what I have highlighted in this post, I added a session 'see also' here too!

But to illustrate the application on the TechNet Wiki, using for example the article on Acronyms of Licencimaneto Microsoft | Siglas do Licenciamento Microsoft. In this article, i added some links: Link to the Survival Guide, Licensing Link to the glossary of licensing and two links to articles of introduction to licensing.

Hugs and good Wednesday everyone!
