Interview with a SQL Server 2012 Business Intelligence (BI) Wiki Ninja - Zoltan Horvath

Welcome to Monday's Interview with a Wiki Ninja.

Today we're honoring Wiki Ninjas blog author, Wiki author/editor, and SQL Server Business Intelligence professional, Zoltan Horvath...

Zoltan Horvath - Profile

Who are you, where are you, and what do you do? What are your specialty technologies?

My name is Zoltán Horváth, and I'm a SQL Server and Business Intelligence (BI) professional in Hungary. I usually build data warehouses, data marts, and OLAP solutions; I implement ETL processes, reports, charts and dashboards. I also help others to build these things on their own.

My specialties are Analysis Services (SSAS) and Integration Services (SSIS).

What are your big projects right now?

I host a Microsoft BI developer training series nowadays. I plan to upgrade my certifications to the SQL 2012 version this year, and I would like to continue growing an offline community of SQL Server professionals in Hungary - we have 32 registered members now in HUG-MSSQL. On TechNet Wiki, I would like to finish the SSIS: List of Transformations and add pages to the SSIS: List of Tasks articles. I will start an SSAS list article as well, about the server properties. There are a few things on my mind regarding posting samples to the Galleries, too.

Besides your work on TechNet Wiki, where do you contribute?

I'm blogging at addictivemeasures.blogspot.com, and on www.hug-mssql.hu. Sometimes I check Forums if any help is needed. I also have a few samples on the Galleries.

What is TechNet Wiki for? Who is it for?

TechNet Wiki is for everyone - from those who want to look after something to those who like to share their knowledge. This is basically a platform for knowledge exchange of Microsoft-related things and technologies. The best thing here is that Microsoft staff and independent experts contribute at the same place (and often together).

On what Wiki articles do you spend most of your time?

I have to visit the SSIS: List of Transformations article most often to add a link for new pages. I spend most of my time on those pages.

What are your favorite Wiki articles you’ve contributed?

It's the Feature Requests for TechNet and MSDN Profiles and Social Platform Tools. However it's not related to a specific technology, it's still a good example of the collaboration on Wiki.

What are your top 3 favorite Wiki articles?

1. "How to Become an MVP or MCC". This is a popular topic, and answers a lot of questions in a single article.

2. "SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)". It was the first page I saw on TechNet Wiki.

3. "SQL Server 2012 Developer Training Kit BOM (en-US)". It's a very nice collection for anyone willing to learn SQL Server 2012.

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

I always like people with commitment and a positive attitude. To be honest, it was you (Ed) who first impressed me when I met TechNet Wiki - I just saw someone called Ed Price who created new stub pages at a pace I couldn't follow :) The activities of the Brazilian community members were impressive as well, they deserved their own portal (which they now have here). But I have to mention all the other Wiki Ninjas, too. Every contribution counts, and it shows that there are people everywhere willing to share their knowledge and improve the content on TechNet Wiki.

Thanks, Zoltan! And thanks for your ongoing contributions to TNWiki and to this blog!
