Interview with a Wiki Ninja: Ana Paula de Almeida

Hello everyone, and welcome to Monday Interview. This week is my pleasure to present the Wiki Ninja Ana Paula de Almeida, a top brazillian wiki writer with articles about licence and Microsoft certification.

Who are you, where are you, what do you do and how does TechNet Wiki fit into the rest of your job?

English - Hello everyone, I'm Ana Paula Almeida, I live in Santa Cruz do Sul-RS, Brazil. Since 1998, when the 11 years I did my first computer course (MS-DOS and Win 3.11) I fell in love with IT and still I’m today.

Currently I am a student of Computer License under-graduation course and I work in the IT Department of a big industry. I worked for several years in the support area, but today I am responsible for the licensing of software and I work directly with the contracts and projects in the area of infrastructure.

My current position in the IT industry requires that I know more then just  products and solutions from Microsoft, the editions and versions, how they are licensed and its benefits and applications. It requires that I always keep myself updated and connected to new releases of Microsoft products and new others IT products.

The TNWiki came to me, in this context of seeking information and updates, as a great learning opportunity. It contributes to me because posting or editing new articles I read and find document and information that I also need on my activities related to licensing at work. Moreover, I have the opportunity to share some of my knowledge in a structure that allows the interaction of professionals from several IT areas.

Nowadays if I face any difficulty with any Microsoft product, the TNWiki is one of my first choices for information and solutions. Today when I think about share information or TNWiki is my first choice.

How did you get introduced to TechNet WIki? And what was your first collaboration?

English - I was introduced to TechNet Wiki in November of 2011, at the same time that I was studying for my first certification (70-671). One day I was studying for the exam and saw a tweet from Luciano Lima divulging the Survival Guide: Microsoft Certifications.

When I accessed the Certifications Guide I aimed to find information regarding the certification exam, which for those who already did not work in a Microsoft partner, knows that the information available for study is very fragmented. Noting that there were no articles about the exam, I immediately created a new article and insert the summary of what I had studied so far.

I affirm that the return was immediate and extremely rewarding.

The post of this article helped me to revise the content that I had studied till that moment and in the same day Luciano posted the article on twitter, two days after this publication I did the exam and I was approved!

And it was through this first article that I became motivated on collaborate with TechNet Wiki. I experienced, once again, something that I believe long ago:

The more information we share more knowledge we gain.

Besides your work on TechNet Wiki, where do you contribute?

English - Besides the licensing articles and contributions to the maintenance of TechNet Wiki (links, formatting and translations) i've already made small contributions to the TechNet Forum and to the Microsoft Answers.

What are your favorite articles you’ve contributed?

English - My first three articles are my favorite ones: Preparation for the exam 70-671, 70-672 and 70-673. Through them I started my contributions and then I was considered the second Ninjette highlighted of TNWiki. :)

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

English - I reply what Jan Hentschel (Horizon_Net) wrote in this same question on his interview, 'cause it summarizes all the people who contribute to the TNWki and impressed someone: "In general, everybody who contributes to the wiki is a ninja, because they are investing their free-time to help others with their knowledge."

But I also list the first three people who impressed me.

1st) Luciano Lima, for his commitment to promote, encourage and help people to collaborate with TNWiki.

2nd) Jorge Barata, for his willingness to help.

Some years ago I collaborated to other wikis, but the feeling was that I helped myself. TechNet Wiki experience is much more different, you feel part of the community. I know that, I can count on the help and orientation from someone and it is very motivating. I’m motivated to contribute much more to help others to contribute, too.

3rd) Ed Price and the amazing numbers of his profile.

In general, everybody who contributes to the wiki is a ninja, because they are investing their free-time to help others with their knowledge.”

What is it about TechNet Wiki that interests you?

English - About the contents: Currently, Msft Licensing (there aren’t many articles about it, but I'm creating a lot! I hope they help other professionals to take care and have a greater attention to this point in their organizations)

About the platform itself: The possibility to collaborate with professionals who are references in their fields. This is very challenging but also very rewarding.

On what articles have you collaborated with other community members on #TNWiki? What was that experience like?

English - In March when there was a second round of TechNet Wiki Translation Challenge, I helped to translate the article Message Templates which is part of the collection of the article Introduction. After that contribution I found articles with the templates in Portuguese, so I was very happy. A contribution you make will certainly impact on others.

You've done fairly well on the Wiki. Do you have any tips or recommendations about editing or authoring articles?

English - TechNet Wiki is an amazing tool. We spent much time producing materials that are spread on our blogs, the questions / answers on forums and now we can pull this together in one place.

So I would like to leave a message here for those who want to collaborate, but for some reason have not done.

TechNet offers an opportunity to engage for everyone whether you're a student, technician or specialist. There are many items to be produced, there are numerous articles produced which can be translated and there are thousands of articles to be reviewed and improved.

You can start with small contributions, but the important thing is that you start.
