The MSDN Article on TNWiki: Around the world in 4 DAYS!!!

Today is Community Win Thursday, where we talk about community-oriented collaborations on TechNet Wiki, which would not be possible on closed/selfish authoring platforms.

Part 1: Stubbed (from the United States)

Observe the history of this MSDN article I created on TechNet Wiki:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7079.msdn-en-us/history.aspx?PageIndex=2

It all began last week on Friday (less than a week ago)...

I decided to stub out this article about MSDN and then come back later:

Part 2: Content (from Italy)

Maybe somebody with more knowledge wanted to take a crack at adding some intro information before I could.

Well, only 24 minutes after I created the article, Luigi Bruno (an MCC) swooped in and added the Introduction and Community Resources sections:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7079.msdn-en-us/compare.aspx?revB=4&revA=2

I responded (via comment in the article tab):

Wow, that was instant. =^)

Luigi, do you want to just create the TechNet one too? There's nothing about it yet (like no Overview yet).

Thanks!

Then one minute after Luigi's last change, I retired the stubbyness:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7079.msdn-en-us/compare.aspx?revB=6&revA=4

Then two minutes after my last change, Luigi added more sections:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7079.msdn-en-us/compare.aspx?revB=9&revA=6

He kept adding more sections on the next day, Saturday:

Part 3: Going to Germany

Then on Sunday, FZB (a Microsoft Partner) did another amazing thing... he added a link to the German version, which he translated:

[Rev 12] Sun, Jan 29 2012 2:56 PM by: FZB

Scroll down to the bottom to see it:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7079.msdn-en-us/compare.aspx?revB=13&revA=12

I responded via the comments in the article tab:

Ed Price - MSFT               Sun, Jan 29 2012 4:57 PM

A German version already! Thanks FZB!

Then I made some more tweaks on Sunday and Monday:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7079.msdn-en-us/compare.aspx?revB=16&revA=13

Part 4: Going to Italy

Only a few hours later, Luigi had translated the Italian version and added the link to the article:

[Revision #16] Mon, Jan 30 2012 2:26 PM by: Luigi Bruno

The next day, (Tuesday), Luigi added the "See Also" section (that links to other TechNet Wiki articles:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7079.msdn-en-us/compare.aspx?revB=19&revA=18

Part 5: Going to Brazil

Four hours later, Luciano Lima (an MVP) added a link to the translated version of that article:

[Current Revision] Tue, Jan 31 2012 2:43 PM by: Luciano Lima [MVP] Brazil

Check out the change at the bottom of the page:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7079.msdn-en-us/compare.aspx?revB=0&revA=19

Conclusion

In just four days (including all planning and research), the community decided to write an article into four different languages! We truly went around the world in 4 days (maybe an additional Russian or Chinese version might have helped cover more eastern land, but this is still super impressive)!

German (de-DE)

Italian (it-IT)

Portuguese (pt-BR)

English (en-US)

Special thanks to Luigi, FZB, and Luciano! And, yes, they also translated the TechNet version from Luigi: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/7082.microsoft-technet-en-us.aspx

Until next time,
