How did you become an MVP of Enterprise Security? Do you have any suggestions for other community members who hope to eventually become MVPs?

 English Version

I started my contributions to the community forums on Microsoft TechNet in 2000. After a few years, I started writing articles for TechNet in Brazil, and in 2004 I was invited to participate in the Roundtable in TechNet. At that time, I did not know about the MVP program and after a few months I heard what the program was like, but for me to be an MVP at that time was a distant dream.

Even after learning about the MVP program, I have not changed my rhythm of contributions and continued doing the exact same thing I enjoyed doing... contributing to the forums and writing articles for TechNet.

One day I had the honor of receiving a call from Nestor Portillo informing me about the appointment of my MVP status in Windows Server; I was paralyzed. I could not believe the news.

I always wanted to work with Information Security. Then in 2006 I began to focus on my studies and contributions to the community in Microsoft Security. With this change, the title of MVP for Enterprise Security in 2007 was almost automatic.

Before any member of the community considers becoming an MVP, I suggest they answer the following questions for themselves.

(1) Am I willing to contribute voluntarily to the community without expectation of gaining anything in return?

(2) Will I spend hours of my time writing articles, contributing to forums, and making presentations to the community?

If you answered yes to both questions, you have a great potential to be an MVP, but my recommendation is that you do not make contributions to become an MVP but make the contributions to be chosen as an MVP. (Editor: There's an attitude difference there.)

What do you do with TechNet Wiki, and how does that fit into the rest of your job?

English Version

In March 2011, I learned about the TechNet Wiki, and I was simply fascinated by the ease of publishing articles in the Microsoft Web site and at the same time being able to contribute to the community by interacting with other Microsoft articles by commenting, correcting, and improving their content.

I started talking with some members of the community and MVPs here in Brazil to start contributing. The response was very fast: in less than 10 months we reached 1,000 articles in Portuguese.

Who has impressed you in the Wiki community, and why?

English Version

In March 2011, I had the pleasure of meeting the master of masters, Yuri Diogenes, in person at the MVP Global Summit in Redmond. He's a leading expert in the Microsoft products that I have had the opportunity to learn about, he has an extraordinary knowledge of technology, and he's super humble. Today it's very rare to find these qualities in a person.

In addition, Yuri helped us all from the beginning with the excellent support platform, TechNet Wiki. Even when living in Texas, he was always online helping us and answering any new questions. Without his active participation, support, recommendations, and tips for our Wiki contributions we probably would not have achieved this milestone of 1,000 articles in Portuguese with such a high level of quality.

You've done fairly well on the Wiki. Do you have any tips or recommendations about editing or authoring articles?

English Version

Before writing a new article, my recommendation is that the community does a search to see if there is an article with the same theme. And if you find one, make sure it can be improved. Do not change only the tags of the article, but include content and keep the article alive.

For the community of Brazil, as Yuri said in his blog the goals for 2012 are:

·Increasing in the number of articles Troubleshooting

·Inclusion of articles for New Technologies (from Beta)

·Maintaining growth of Planning articles and configuration

·Platform Evangelism

·Aumento no número de Artigos de Resolução de Problemas;

·Inclusão de Artigos de Novas Tecnologias (a partir de versão Beta);

·Manter o crescimento dos artigos de Planejamento e Configuração;

·Evangelização da Plataforma.
