TNWiki Article Spotlight – Forefront Identity Manager Resources

Already for some years the Identity Manager product had a very active and supporting community in the Identity Lifecycle Manager forum.
With the launch of Forefront Identity Manager 2010 (ILM 2 in earlier days) a complementary FIM 2010 forum was launched.

This boosted the community impact significantly, using the lessons learned from the ILM forum.

One of the driving forces on the forum is Markus Vilcinskas, who has put enthusiastic effort for continued improvement of the forum and it's content.

(And Markus is a practicing ninja!)

The Technet Wiki still was in beta (yes, the early days), Markus launched some sticky threads collecting different kind of topics. Take a look at

  • FIM Knowledge Bit Collection: Knowledge bits are a community effort to track important data and by doing this, to reduce the amount of time that is required to locate important information.
  • FIM Experts Corner: is your opportunity to discuss important FIM topics with subject matter experts from Microsoft and the FIM community. The discussed topics are covering all aspects of FIM.
  • FIM Scriptbox: Scripts are a convenient way to simplify common tasks. The objective of this post is to track the scripts you have developed.

Just look at the page views of each and you understand Markus' initiative was a big hit.

But as the amount of articles started to grow, it became an intensive job to maintain the article collection.
This triggered the move of the articles to Technet Wiki.

Just for your information, this article shows a list of Wiki articles with FIM 2010 tags. (More on this article in one of my next blog posts.)
For the FIM writers: make sure you tag your articles properly to show up in the catalog.

But there is more...
FAR more!

Back in 2010, I was searching the web for some FIM labs, I found out that there were even podcasts on FIM.
So why not putting it all together and share the knowledge?
(Though, I must admit, it rather is a "note-to-self", some extra memory aid for me.)

This is how the Forefront Identity Manager Resource page got started.
Nowadays it not only contains references to the FIM 2010 TechCenter and TechNet libraries, but also RSS feeds, online virtual labs, downloadable virtual labs, test labs, podcast, webcasts, solutions from MS Partners, management agents from partners, blogs, articles & magazines, books, downloads... and more.

Pretty amazing what you can find on FIM 2010, isn't it?
And still, there is new stuff out there every day.

I would like to invite you to check out the Forefront Identity Manager Resource page.
Feel free to add missing info or update existing content.

That's what the Technet Wiki is about!

And last but not least: thanks to you all that have contributed to the FIM community effort! Your support is invaluable!
