Technical News: SQL Announcements at TechEd 2007; Dave Campbell Webcast At Noon PT

Today at TechEd 2007 in sunny Orlando, several announcements of interest to the SQL Server faithful are unfolding.

The next release of SQL Server, code-named Katmai, will be released under the SQL Server 2008 banner. The first SQL Server 2008 Community Technology Preview release may be found here (registration required). Yep, that's a download link for your first look at SQL Server 2008!

In an hour, at noon PT, Dave Campbell will offer a 200-level WebCast, "The Next Release Of SQL Server: Overview." Click here to view the webcast.

Microsoft today also announced the acquisition of Dundas Data Visualization Inc.'s Data Visualization products, which provide rich charting within SQL Server Reporting Services.

All in all a big day for SQL Server devotees.
