Use Rights Refreshed Across Remaining Portfolio with October Update

The forthcoming October PUR delivers against the promise we made earlier this year with the August update.  We have extended the model we introduced with the Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 use rights to the rest of our Volume Licensing product portfolio.

In this approach, our intention is to:

  • Enhance the customer experience
    • Provide clear enterprise licensing rules
    • Inspire and enable compliance
  • Provide concise license models
    • Emphasize core use rights
    • Allocate risk reasonably

As we stated previously, our objective is to support the core use rights that accompany the products while still providing clear licensing rules. The new language does not change the use rights, it provides a new simplified approach intended to reduce content, and state the basic licensing rules in a less complex manner to enable easier reading and understanding.

The new document is live as of 10/1 and can be downloaded from this page. As always, please be in touch if you have questions about the refresh.

Hi @ms-licensing, the document is very exhaustive and comprehensive, though has a ambiguity that I would want to clarify:

On page 38 'SharePoint Server 2013', 'External User Access' is mentioned as 'Licensed with Server'

Requirement of external connector has been omitted.

Does that mean that external connector is no more required to be configured for SP 2013 Server for an extranet scenario?

Any pointers on this would be helpful to the community.
