As of October 3, 2011 the Agreement refresh updates will be in effect. In comparison to previous years there are fewer changes to note, due in large part to the significant changes already implemented through the process of updating the Enterprise Agreement.
Still, the changes for 2011 are no less potent than in prior years. Amongst the changes, two key areas to note are Microsoft’s efforts to programmatically enable Online Services and the ongoing focus on creating greater clarity of documentation through both simplified language and shortening the overall length of documentation for the Open License Agreement from 11 to 5½ pages.
For customers who use the Open Licensing Agreement, the changes reflect Microsoft’s intention to demonstrate sensitivity to the fact that many of these organizations do not have legal counsel on staff to review contracts and therefore easier to understand, shorter agreements would be of benefit.
