Adding Ringtones to a Motorola Q (Smartphone)

Posted from: https://www.hellomotoq.com/forums/qool-stuff/48-add...

It's the question of all questions for the Motorola Q. How do you add or install custom ringtones to your Q? It's real simple actually. First you need to know what you want to put on. Just make sure that it is in MP3 or WMA format. If you are solely using the song as a ringtone I would recommend pulling the bitrate down to about 96 Kbps and cutting the song to your favorite part (i.e. the chorus). This is so that you can save space as well as play only the part of the song that you want. If you don't have access to audio editing software like CoolEdit or Adobe Audition. It's okay if you just use the file as is. Sorry folks iTunes files are usually mp4 and are encrypted so they wont work.

So here is what you do.

  1. Connect your Motorola Q to your desktop PC running ActiveSync.
  2. Click on Explore
  3. Navigate to: My Windows Mobile-Based Device\Application Data\Sounds
  4. Drag and Drop the WMA or MP3 file in question (hit okay when you see thr prompt).
  5. Now, on your Motorola Q, hit Start>Settings>Sounds
  6. Press in on Ring tone to pull up the list.
  7. Your recently uploaded MP3 or WMA should be in the list. Select it and hit done.
  8. Hit done one more time to confirm your selection.
  9. Now call your phone and try it out!

If you want to change your alarm or e-mail/text message sound, your song or sound needs to be in WAV format. Download a wav file and any sound effects website and place it in the same folder as shown above. Voila!
