March was a record-breaking month for Tag! All of us on the team are excited that it continues to lead the mobile tagging industry across several verticals. Here's the scoop:
- March 2011 had the most scans of any month so far, with over 50 percent more scans than any other month.
- Three billion Tags were printed in the past six months alone (5 billion have been printed since launch in January 2009).
- In the past three months, scans per month have doubled, and users per month have more than doubled.
- Publishing continues to be the top industry using Tag. Retail and entertainment are second and third.
"Brand adoption and consumer engagement continue to build, with March being our strongest month to date, due to several high profile, well executed campaigns," said Aaron Getz, general manager of Microsoft Tag. "We continue to have tremendous success within publishing and also see increasing usage by retailers, consumer packaged goods companies, and movie studios."
For proof that Tag is leading mobile tagging in the publishing industry, look no further than recent campaigns in top publications like USA TODAY, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, and Woman's Day-all of which have increased their use of Tag. "We're adding more Tags across multiple issues as we see increased engagement from our readers," said Carlos Lamadrid, editor of Woman's Day. "Most recently we used Tag for a sweepstakes in March and saw record participation."
Consumer packaged goods companies and retailers are also using Tag to engage shoppers and simplify purchasing decisions. Herbal Essences is using Tag with shelf displays that link to an interactive mobile experience to help the shopper choose the right hair products, and Lowe's is using Tags on plants throughout its Garden Centers. "Tags have proven to be an extremely efficient means to deliver our customers compelling content and decision tools during the shopping experience," said Gihad Jawhar, vice president of Lowes.com.
And several movie studios, including Summit Entertainment and Universal Pictures, are using Tag to promote films by putting Tags on movie ads, posters, and packaging that link to movie trailers, interactive mobile games, and exclusive content.
