Open Text is acquiring Vignette

Continuing the trend of consolidation in Enterprise Content Management (ECM) market, Open Text is acquiring Vignette. The transaction is expected to close in H2 of CY09 after all the required clearances and Vignette will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Open Text. The purchase decision seems to be triggered by "Size does matter" philosophy and Microsoft SharePoint seems to be the common pain. The combined entity's product portfolio has overlaps and might actually create confusion in respective customer base on future product roadmap. Open Text needs to clarify soon.

With each SharePoint version, the consolidation trend amongst SharePoint competitors is accelerating and their size and aggression is increasing. Few months back Automony acquired Interwoven. But never mind folks, Microsoft is ready and SharePoint 2010 is going to increase the marketshare further :-)
