Here is a short video that walks through VM creation in Azure. I cover Quick Create and Create from Gallery, but I do not talk about putting a Virtual Machine in a Virtual Network yet, that will be in a subsequent video.
What’s the difference between Basic and Standard Tier VMs? Basic VMs do not offer as many size options, and they do not include load balancing or auto-scaling options. For a smaller single instance VM, the Basic Tier may be acceptable, but for any VM that needs scale or load-balancing, you will need to go with the Standard Tier VMs.
I also mentioned using the gallery images versus building your own Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Edition VM and uploading it to Azure. I talk about those details here.
