Migrating from VMWare to Hyper-V

I am often asked about tools that will help migrate VMWare virtual machines to Hyper-V.  There are a lot of options to choose from these days.  Let me give you just a few with links so you can research and decide for yourself.

Double-Take MOVE – This is a third party product from Vision Solutions.  Double-Take® MOVE allows you to migrate physical, virtual, and cloud server workloads with real-time replication from a single user console. The tool migrates your entire server environment including the system state and file system with near zero downtime.

System Center Virtual Machine Manager - Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) is a management solution for the virtualized datacenter provided as part of System Center Datacenter or Standard edition.  This component  provides configuration and management of virtualization host, networking, and storage resources in order to create and deploy virtual machines and services.  You can utilize the V2V functionality to convert from VMWare to Hyper-V virtual machines.  This V2V conversion can be accomplished via the CVM wizard or command line.  You can download an evaluation copy to try at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40843

Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter Solution Accelerator – This solution accelerator is a stand-alone solution available for free download.  You can utilize the solutions accelerator to convert and deploy VMware virtual hosts to Hyper-V hosts.  As part of the process it converts the virtual disks attached to the sources as well as configuration information and adds virtual network interface cards to the converted VM on Hyper-V.  There is a wizard-driven GUI as well as a scriptable command-line interfaces that integrates with data center automation worksflows and Windows PowerShell scripts.

Now that you are aware of some options - take a look, try them out and let us know your favorite tool for moving to Hyper-V.
