I received the following question today:

Can I configure DHCP to give out a specific IP range for my iPhone and iPad users?  I don’t want them in the same IP range as my normal computers?

Answer:  Yes!  Check out the following TechNet article.  It provides the step-by-step details on how to configure DHCP using policy based assignments.  If you know the MAC address, or better yet, the first few digits of the MAC address range, you can create a policy that will assign a pre-determined range of IP addresses to those specific devices.

This is one of the many new features introduced in Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Until next time,

Rob
