How does System Center licensing work for desktops?

Recently, I’ve been asked about how System Center licensing works for desktops….  In the past, if you wanted to manage/monitor/protect a desktop, you needed to purchase the appropriate Client Management License (CML) as well as a Management Server License for the corresponding CML.

With System Center 2012, we removed the necessity to purchase the Management Server software!  The mere purchase of a CML entitles you to run the Management Server software at no additional cost….. and you also receive the rights to run this on SQL server technology!

This should result in significant savings for your customers!
