I received the following question:
Q: Will SCVMM 2008 R2 manage a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Server?
A: Yes, but SP1 needs to be applied to your SCVMM 2008 R2 installation first.
Here’s the excerpt from the What’s New in Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1.
Why is SP1 required? Because of the timing of product releases, sometimes updates are required for an existing product, SCVMM 2008 in this case, to support more recently released products, Windows Server 2008 R2 in this scenario. Two of the big additions in SP1 for SCVMM 2008 R2 gives it the ability to manage VMs that utilize RemoteFX and Dynamic Memory. RemoteFX and Dynamic Memory are two key features included in Windows Server 2008 R2. I hope this helps…
Until next time,
