Valuable Connectors and Add-Ins Are Now Available for SBS Essentials 2011

Josh Condie – In the last month, Microsoft has announced the release of two useful add-ins for Small Business Server Essentials 2011.  The first, Windows Server Solutions Phone Connector for SBS Essentials 2011, puts administrative functions in the hands of Windows Phone 7 users.  Administrators can receive alerts, perform backup database repair, and many other admin functions without having to open the dashboard, or even have a laptop on hand.

More information on the Phone Connector can be found here:  https://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2011/07/15/windows-server-solutions-phone-connector-for-small-business-server-2011-essentials-released.aspx

The second add-in, Windows 7 Professional Pack for SBS Essentials 2011, will allow administrators to deploy Windows Defender, Network Firewall and Windows Update to clients in a single step, giving IT an easy way to ensure a baseline of security protection from the beginning.  This update will be of particular benefit to mobile users, whose laptops might not always be connected when in-office network backups commence.  With this add-in, disconnected users save to their local drive as normal, and the data is then replicated automatically to the SBS Server when reconnect to the network, and then backed up by the server. When they make future changes, the delta bits are instantly updated to the server as well.
