If you bought Windows Server 2008 Foundation or Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation and you’re now out growing it, Microsoft is offering a limited time upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. Until September 30th, 2011, you can “trade-in” your copy of Foundation for credit toward a copy of Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition. The official information can be found here:

Why move from Foundation to Standard? We have a good comparison chart here, that gives you an overview of the capabilities included in each edition. Remember that Foundation is limited to 15 users, and it will let you know if you have more than 15 users in your Active Directory. Let me remind you of the goals around Foundation Server here. Foundation is a great small business solution, so if you are supporting 15 or fewer users, look no farther, but if you’re growing more than expected <good thing!>, check out this upgrade offer while it lasts!
