Here are the rules that the search engine follows when it processes your query.

All searches are AND searches. It looks for pages that contain every term entered in the query text box. For example, If you get too many results for windows, try searching for windows vista instead.
All searches are word searches. It treats every term as separate. If you are searching for a phrase, place quotes around the words. For example, if you get too many results for windows vista, try searching for "windows vista" instead.
Common words are ignored. It ignores all punctuation marks that are not used as Boolean operators, and all "noise" words that would significantly slow down returns without improving results. You can include an omitted word by using the + symbol or by placing quotes around the word. The omitted words are: a, about, an, and, are, as, at, be, by, for, from, in, is, it, of, on, or, that, the, this, to, was, what, when, where, which, who, will, and with.
10 terms are enough. It uses only the first 10 terms entered.
255 characters are enough. It uses only the first 255 characters entered.
One place at a time. If the results you're looking for might exist on a Microsoft.com site other than the location you are searching from, try changing the display language.
