Inside SharePoint: Maintaining Security Account Credentials

Frequently changing farm credentials and security account passwords are important measures for keeping a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) farm secure. Yet for administrators, these tasks are tedious and repetitive. The tools are difficult to use, the underlying processes are complex, good documentation is hard to find, and there is a risk of corrupting the server farm even when following all of the proper procedures. In the first part of a two-part series on the standard procedures and tools for maintaining SharePoint security accounts, Pav Cherny explores  the architectural details and the complicated process of accomplishing password changes.
