Deploying Windows Vista With BDD 2007

You've got hundreds, maybe thousands, of machines that need to be migrated from Windows 2000 or Windows XP to Windows Vista. So where do you start?

With the release of Windows Vista, the whole process has been redesigned and there are many new and improved tools to help you plan and execute your Windows deployment. The Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) 2007 is a set of tools, guidance, and procedures to simplify the deployment process, tying together all the new deployment processes and tools introduced with Windows Vista.

In the September issue of TechNet Magazine, Michael Niehaus walks you through the process of preparing and running a deployment with BDD 2007.

For a good overview of the changes in deployment for Windows Vista and how they'll affect you, see the Michael's article 10 Things You Need to Know about Deploying Windows Vista in the November 2006 issue of TechNet Magazine.

Also, a new version of the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment Tool (version 2.1) is now available for download. We mentioned version 1.0 back in the May 2007 Desktop Files column, but they’ve made some big updates to this handy utility.

Enjoy!
