We are excited to announce the official launch of Windows Server 2016 will be at the Ignite conference this Fall.

There will be three main editions:

  • Datacenter
  • Standard
  • Essentials

In Standard and Datacenter, there will be three installation options:

  • Service with Desktop
  • Server Core
  • Nano Server

Servicing Guidelines for Windows Server 2016 - Summary

In prior releases, Server was serviced/supported with 5+5 model (5 yrs of mainstream support and 5 yrs of extended support).

  • If you install full Windows Server 2016 with Desktop Experience or Server Core, you will continue with this experience via the Long Term Servicing Branch (LTSB).
  • If you install Nano Server, you will be on a more active servicing branch, Current Branch for Business (CBB).
