(SQL) Tip of the Day: Public Preview of Azure HDInsight Storm

Today’s (SQL) Tip…

Microsoft announced the public preview of Apache Storm clusters on Azure HDInsight on Oct 15 at Strata + Hadoop World. Apache Storm is introduced as a Cloud Service for the first time with Azure HDInsight. This gives our customers the ability to spin up managed and elastic Storm clusters within a few minutes with a few clicks for a smooth experience.

Apache Storm is a distributed, fault-tolerant, open source real-time event processing solution which enables different business scenarios like real-time fraud detection, click-stream analysis, financial alerts, telemetry from connected devices/sensors and much more. This solution is a very practical approach to prevent issues based on real-time detection and optimize business processes based on both real-time detection in combination with Hadoop batch processing. Apache Storm on the Azure platform opens up the technology even broader with seamless integration to the whole Azure ecosystem such as Eventhub, SQL Azure DB, Azure HDInsight Cluster, VNet integration and more. Apache Storm is offered as preview clusters on Azure HDInsight.

As a note, this is something I am not an expert in but I thought it looked interesting, if you do have questions though I will hunt down the right people to talk to!
