(Cloud) Tip of the Day: International Standards for Cloud Computing

JTC 1 Announces Two Key International Standards for Cloud Computing - developed as a collaborative project between JTC 1 – ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee 1, Information Technology – and ITU-T – the International Telecommunication Union’s Telecommunication Standardization Sector:

  • ISO/IEC 17788, Cloud Computing - Overview and Vocabulary
  • ISO/IEC 17789, Cloud Computing - Reference Architecture

The Overview and Vocabulary standard provides definitions of common cloud computing terms including those for cloud service categories such as Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), as well as for cloud deployment models such as public cloud, and private cloud. The Reference Architecture standard includes diagrams and descriptions of how the various aspects of cloud computing relate to one another.
