Tip of the Day: Dell/Credant System Crash Issue

Today’s Tip… Special thanks to Michael Champion

Users have been reporting Dell Data Protection|Encryption (DDP|E) encrypted systems crashing with either a STOP 0x6F or STOP 0x74 error code or producing a black recovery screen for CMGShield after applying the Microsoft Update from KB Article 2973201. After investigating this further, it was determined that the “…update tripped the SDE anti-tampering protections” for Dell encrypted systems of specific products and versions.

Dell has provided an updated KB Article to further explain the issue, a list of impacted products, the Dell workaround, and methods to prevent the issue from occurring.
