(SQL) Tip of the Day: Automatic Exports: What, Where, and Why

Today’s (SQL) Tip…

Did you know that SQL Azure doesn’t include a SQL Agent?  Without a scheduling tool,  how then can someone schedule automatic, recurring backups of their databases? 

Enter the “Automatic Export” feature.  This feature, as available through the Azure Management Portal (screenshot below), allows you to schedule exports of your databases to occur at defined intervals.  The “backup” will be saved to your Windows Azure Blob Store and kept for a default of 30 days.

So when disaster strikes, be prepared thanks to the Automatic Export feature.
