Tip of the Day: Mounting ISO Files

Today’s tip…

Windows 8 and Server 2012 have the ability to mount ISO files without needing to install 3rd party software. Simply right click and MOUNT.

Alternately, you can also mount an ISO file by using the Windows PowerShell cmdlet, Mount-DiskImage.

NOTE: Both methods can also be used to mount .VHD/.VHDx files.

I agree, this was huge and I was never in love with the idea of installing freeware ISO programs onto production boxes (though many clients resorted to this). I like Balaji’s suggestion to add this feature as an update to older OS’.

  2. Most wanted feature in other versions of Windows as well. Microsoft can add this feature in the form of an update to other versions as well.
