Tip of the Day: Search

Today’s tip…

I’m often surprised when I look over people’s shoulders and see them doing things the hard way. That’s why some of my tips have been about the Windows interface and the improvements in Windows 8/8.1.

One of my favorites features in Windows is the search. On my work computer, I have lots of weird programs that I don’t what to go digging up every time I need them. With the old start menu, I had to manually search for the program group that my application was in. This was difficult if the program group was named something other than what the application was named (some software manufacturers put the company name on the program group).

Thanks to search….no more hunting for my apps.

  1. Windows logo key
  2. Type the name of the app or tool that I’m after
  3. Select it from the list

Of course it can also be used to find files.
