I am unable to switch on/off the embedded WWAN device on my Sony laptop on Windows 7.
If you use the VAIO Smart Network utility without installing the DLLs/Shared Libraries from Sony, you will hit this. This utility, which is used to control the WWAN device, can only be used if you install the pre-requisite libraries and DLLs. The solution is to ensure that these libraried/DLLs are pre-installed before installing/using the VAIO Smart Network utility.
For the same, (VGN-TZ21VN/X or VGN-TZ class models) you can use the following simple step-by-step procedure:-
- Download the Sony Utilities Package by going to the following location - https://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/info/info.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&url=Vaio/Original/TZ21_Utilities.zip&ip=Preinstalled_Utilities.htm.
- Accept the License Agreement
- Accept the download and save the file to a local folder (about 150 MB)
- Extract the ZIP file
- Go to Utils Installer 1 SonyUtils DLL folder
- Run the setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
- After completing the above setup, go to Utils Installer 2 Sony Shared Library folder
- Run the setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
- After completing the above setup, go to Utils Installer VAIO Control Center folder
- Run the setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
- The above steps would install the pre-requisites to install the VAIO Smart Network utility.
- Now download the VAIO Smart Network Utility:-
- Go to https://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/info/info.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&url=VAIO/Updates/EP0000165709.exe&ip=EP0000165709.htm
- Accept the License Agreement
- Accept the download and save the file to a local folder (about 5 MB)
- Now you can use VAIO Smart Network Utility to switch on/off the WWAN device. You can now install the device driver and corresponding connection manager to use the device.
