DHCP Server Avaliable on "Server Core" OS.

DHCP Server Role: An early supported Role on "Server Core" OS.

Server Core is a minimal server installation option for computers running on the Windows Server "Longhorn" Beta 2 operating system. Server Core provides a low-maintenance environment capable of providing core server roles.

At present Server Core supports the following server roles:

  • DHCP Server
  • File Server
  • DNS Server
  • Active Directory

Server Core is designed to provide an environment that reduces:

  • Service requirements
  • Management requirements
  • Attack surface
  • Disk space

To accomplish its core, but critical roles, the Server Core installation option only installs the binaries required by its four supported roles. For example, the Explorer shell is not installed with Server Core. Instead, the Server Core user interface is the command prompt.

Being an OS with only Server Roles specific binaries with minimal UI support, Server Core OS intends to provide lot more performace benefits along with many other benefits.

My own experience with DHCP Server on Server Core has been terrific!!
