Office 2010 Tips – Print, Share, and Communicate Easier with Office Backstage View

Use the Backstage view for quick access to the essentials

The new Microsoft Office Backstage view replaces the traditional File menu, helping you quickly get to operations such as save, share, print, and publish with just a few clicks. Take advantage of the rich, intuitive set of commands to help you handle your work more efficiently and quickly put a final finish on your Microsoft Office 2010 files.

Get things done easier and faster with the Backstage view

Step by Step

Print faster than ever. Print-related commands and settings (for example, preview, print, page layout), previously spread across several dialog boxes, are all in a single place—the Print tab in the Backstage view.

1. On the Ribbon, to the left of the Home tab, click the File tab to go to the Microsoft Office Backstage™ view.

2. Click Print. The main window shows your document in print preview, with all print-related commands next to it.

3. Click the File tab again to exit the Backstage view.

In Microsoft Outlook 2010, the Backstage view is where you’ll find Automatic Replies (Out of Office), Mailbox Cleanup, Manage Voice Mail, and more.

1. On the Ribbon, to the left of the Home tab, click the File tab to open the Backstage view.

2. Select the Info tab to view information about your document and access features that let you manage permission, check for hidden information and recover draft versions. In Outlook, this is where you can manage your mailbox settings.

Notice how I get a real-time page preview with printing without an annoying pop-up or new window to deal with.  I have more control at my fingertips with much less context switching.
