The TechEd 2011 event going on now in Atlanta has great resources for learning more about how IT can embrace consumer technologies to become more agile and efficient. In terms of client management, the “Consumerization of IT” trend breaks down into two evolving components:
1) Make it possible for IT to support a much wider array of client access devices,
2) Enable your end-users with access to IT support, resources, even software via self-service models, rather than only through direct interaction with IT.
You can see client management for consumer technologies in action every hour on the hour at the Cloud Power booth on the TechEd show floor. Here, we’re showing System Center Configuration Manager 2012 and its new capabilities. Did you know you can now manage a greater variety of mobile OSes; including not just Windows Phone 7, but also iOS, Android and others? This means now when you open the Configuration Manager Deployment console you’ll not only see your software portfolio, but also have the ability to deploy those apps to any OS that supports them, automatically taking into account OS requirements and dependencies. Device management also extends to granular security settings that automatically vary depending on device support.
