A quick note on the Windows Server Update Services life cycle

image We often get questions about when the support End of Life (EOL) is for a particular piece of software so I thought I’d mention some of the important dates for WSUS in case you were still running any of the older versions.

WSUS 2.0 RTM support has already ended.

WSUS 2.0 SP1 support ends at the end of the month in April 2009 (two years after WSUS 3.0 was released). Yes, that’s this month so if you’re still on WSUS 2.0 SP1 then you need to start thinking about an upgrade.

WSUS 3.0 RTM support ended this February 2009.

WSUS 3.0 SP1 is still under support and will be until 1 year after SP2 releases (This version will be released within one month of Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM).

The Windows Server Update Services Life Cycle has been published for a long time so this is probably old news but since WSUS 2.0 SP1 support was ending this month I thought it would be worth a mention.  You can find more information on this at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/wsus/bb980625.aspx.
