Surface Pro with LTE Advanced Drivers and Firmware (Initial Release)

We are pleased to announce today we have available the initial driver and firmware pack for Surface Pro with LTE Advanced available for you to download at the Microsoft Download Center.

Download the driver and firmware pack MSI file from the Surface Pro with LTE Advanced page of the Microsoft Download Center:

  • SurfacePro_LTE_Win10_15063_1714307_0.msi

Note: The minimum version of Windows supported on Surface Pro with LTE Advanced is Windows 10 Creators Update, Version 1703.

Note: Starting with Surface Studio, driver and firmware packs for all new Surface devices will be provided in MSI format only. Drivers and firmware will not be provided in ZIP format. You can easily extract the contents of the MSI driver and firmware pack, for example to import the drivers into your MDT deployment share or System Center Configuration Manager driver catalog, using the administrative installation option of msiexec, msiexec /a. For example, to extract the contents of SurfacePro_LTE_Win10_15063_1714307_0.msi to the folder D:\Surface Pro with LTE Advanced\Windows 10 Version 1703\1714307 without bringing up the installation dialog, you would use the following command:

msiexec /a SurfacePro_LTE_Win10_15063_1714307_0.msi targetdir="D:\Surface Pro with LTE Advanced\Windows 10 Version 1703\1714307" /qn

Note: When extracting driver files from the MSI, the destination folder (targetdir) must be different than the folder containing the MSI file.

This initial driver and firmware pack also includes updates for the drivers and firmware provided on the first wave of devices shipped from the factory, commonly known as a Day 0 update. These updated drivers include the drivers for Surface GPS, Surface GPS Multiplexer, Surface GPS USB Multiplexer, and Surface UEFI. These updates improve system stability.

Specific fixes include:

  1. sigurd_ch says:

Will it have a different model name in WMI?

    1. Model is not unique between the two, both models will show Surface Pro in System Model.

SKU is unique between the two, Surface Pro (WiFi) will show Surface_Pro_1796 and Surface Pro with LTE Advanced will show Surface_Pro_1809).

Both Model and SKU are visible in msinfo32 where you can verify the exact Model Number show in the SKU field on your device.

The Model Number is also printed on the back of the device, under the kickstand by the serial number, and on the box, also by the serial number.

  2. David says:

When is the new LTE version of the Surface Pro being released?

    1. Surface Pro with LTE Advanced has begun shipping and delivery to customers as of 12/1.

  3. Lee Bowman says:

Can this MSI be installed on the Surface Pro (newest) that does not have LTE? Therefore it will install the LTE/4G drivers but not use them because the device is not the LTE model?

    1. Lee Bowman says:

Just answered my own question…the MSI has a property which requires the particular SKU

      OSVersion=Win10;ProductName=SurfacePro;SystemSKU=LTE;OSBuild=15063;SystemModels=OEMCA Product,Surface Pro;SystemSKUs=Surface_Pro_1807

These Surface Pro drivers are an absolute shambles!!! Dynamically installing the appropriate Firmware/Driver pack for the appropriate Surface model and OS build version is just shocking

      1. FunkyMike says:

Have you tried extracting the package or removing the flags for the LTE edition?

  4. Lee Bowman says:

What about Windows 10 Fall Update (1709) the Driver Pack wont install for this OS Build?

    1. Surface driver and firmware pack compatibility with Windows version is specified in terms of a support floor (defined by build number).

In other words Build 15063 is the minimum build required to install SurfacePro_LTE_Win10_15063_1714307_0.msi and SurfacePro_LTE_Win10_15063_1714307_0.msi will install to any version of Windows 10 with a build number equal to or higher than 15063, including Version 1709 (Build 16299), Insider Preview builds, or future versions of Windows 10.
