How to run Small Business Server (SBS) 2008 on a machine that's already running Vista/XP

Andy recently contacted me via Mrs TechNet asking how to get SBS 2008 Standard running on a machine that already had a client operating system running on it hence he was keen to run it as a virtual machine. The trouble is that SBS is needs to run on a 64-bit operating system hence it's not possible to run it under Virtual PC or Virtual Server. Windows Server's Hyper-v feature will happily run 64-bit virtual machine clients hence it's a good way to run SBS.

Dual booting could be the way to go for Andy though he may need to re-partition his hard disk to make this possible - I've explained how to do this without loosing data or re-installing in a follow up post titled How to re-partition a hard disk under Vista or Server 2008 without having to re-install
