Our Cat Killed the TV – why we’re not going HD

Whilst we were on holiday a few weeks ago one of our cats was sick INTO the back of our television! She likes to sit up there as it's nice and warm. Fortunately she wasn't hurt though the TV faired less well.

We were left with a dilema as we had to replace the TV and the temptation to purchase a High Definition LCD TV was hard to resist. James' post about HD re-enforced my reservation that this would lead to a major technology refresh.

I'm sure we'll go HD sooner or later though for now we're choosing to avoid replacing the following:

  • Our Satellite receiver - we'd have to move to a HD subscription which is more expensive

  • The TV card in our Media Centre

  • Our XBox - I know it would work on a HD screen but the temptation to spashout on a 360 would be relentless.

I can't wait to get a 360 but it will have to wait for now.

I’m not sure how to handle cat puke though…  🙁

Who cares about the TV — how’s the cat? (^_^)

Blake> She’s completely oblivious – as I stated in the post she was absolutely fine – like you that’s all I was really bothered about 🙂

Glad to hear your (very cute) ginger cat is OK! I think there’s a strong positive correlation between cat ownership and involvement in the security industry; presumably it’s a stress thing 🙂

Of course I hope that if you replace the TV with a plasma or TFT that you’ll find a suitable alternative sleeping place for the cat; mine is quite happy sleeping in a laptop bag!

Nik> That’s the funny thing – she used to sit on the top of the PC Monitor – another nice warm place – that was until it was replaced with a TFT monitor!

She’s a lovely cat – if only she’d realise that I don’t get up @ "stupid O’clock" on the weekends and holidays!

It must be a ginger thing; my ginger moggy regular gets me up nice and early too…!

What you really mean to say is that Mrs L’ has said no to the hardware refresh …  because you’ll only want to refresh again in a couple of years …

Must be one funny insurance claim though – “TV destroyed due to cat throwing-up in the back. It works but smells funny” …

Nearly as funny as my half baked loaf of bread …

    Many years ago …
I had purchased a half baked loaf of bread – you know the type that any idiot can warm through using an oven.

Well having placed the bread in the oven, I received a phone call asking if I was having a drink down the pub. Thinking logically, I turned the oven down to something really low, and headed towards the watering hole with all good intention of returning home for at least 3pm as I was being picked-up at 6pm

Well one thing led to another, and I ran out of the pub at 5-50pm in a blind panic … threw all my clothes into a bag and ran out to meet my lift; having totally forgotten about the bread and the oven.

Well the lady who was checking my flat at the time, opened the door on Friday lunchtime to be greeted by smoke, and promptly ran out of the flat screaming FIRE !!

Well I arrived home at around 2-30pm on the Friday to find that the A30, (which ran outside my flat), had been closed, with Fire engines, an Ambulance, and a couple of Police cars parked at silly angles.

When I explained to the Policeman that I lived in a flat further up the road and needed to get home, he just laughed and guided me towards the fireman wearing a funny white helmet; who promptly burst into fits of laughter.

10 minutes later, a couple of men wearing teddy bear suits and breathing aparatus emerged from the flat carrying a very warm baking tray with the rather cindered remains of my Sunday lunch …

What was more embarassing is that the firemen filled out my insurance claim – working on the basis that if I had completed it the insurance company would have had me arrested and charged with fraud – or committed upon the grounds of stupidity !

Needless to say I did take some grief both from the insurance company, who provided a hamper for Christmas – evidently in the hope that I didn’t cook – and the regulars in the pub …

Blimey – that sounds like a nightmare!

Surprisingly it wasn’t Mrs L – perhaps I’m getting sensible in my old age. I’ve learnt that all such toys drop sharpish in price and I’d like a nice 60" HD screen in a year or two
